Opportunity
An established and highly respected New Hampshire civil engineering and land surveying firm is seeking a Survey Technician to join its Portsmouth-area team.
This is a full-time opportunity for someone who enjoys the technical side of surveying, wants exposure to a diverse range of projects, and is looking for a long-term home with an experienced surveying and engineering organization.
The Survey Technician will work alongside professional surveyors, engineers, project managers, and field personnel on projects throughout New Hampshire and the surrounding region.
Projects may include commercial and residential development, municipal work, boundary and existing-conditions surveys, construction layout, and other civil engineering and land development assignments.
Responsibilities
The Survey Technician will support both field and office surveying activities, including:
Perform boundary, topographic, existing-conditions, and construction surveys
Perform construction staking and layout
Establish and verify horizontal and vertical survey control
Collect accurate field measurements and survey data
Operate total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, electronic data collectors, and other modern surveying equipment
Locate property corners, monuments, existing improvements, utilities, and site features
Assist with boundary research and review of deeds, plans, maps, and other record information
Download, organize, process, and review field survey data
Perform survey calculations and support preparation of survey plans
Assist with preparation of existing-conditions plans, boundary plans, subdivision plans, and other survey-related deliverables
Review construction drawings and engineering plans in preparation for field layout
Maintain accurate field notes and project documentation
Coordinate with survey crews, project managers, engineers, and other technical staff
Help identify discrepancies or potential field issues and communicate findings to the project team
Maintain and properly care for surveying equipment
Follow established company procedures, surveying standards, and safety requirements
Assist with multiple projects and priorities while maintaining accuracy and quality
Qualifications
We are interested in candidates who have practical surveying experience and want to continue developing their career with an established professional team.
Preferred qualifications include:
Previous experience in land surveying, civil surveying, construction surveying, or a related field
Experience performing boundary, topographic, existing-conditions, and/or construction surveys
Familiarity with modern survey equipment, including total stations and GPS/GNSS systems
Experience with electronic data collection and field-to-office survey workflows
Ability to read and interpret deeds, plans, maps, construction drawings, and engineering documents
Understanding of basic surveying principles, measurements, calculations, and field procedures
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work
Good organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, surveyors, engineers, clients, and project teams
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions when field work is required
Valid driver's license
Additional Experience That Is Valuable
Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial:
AutoCAD Civil 3D
Survey data processing
Existing-conditions mapping
Boundary research
ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
Construction layout and staking
Subdivision and land development surveying
GPS/GNSS and robotic total station equipment
Civil site development projects
Municipal or infrastructure projects

Requirements
Prior experience in land surveying, construction surveying, or civil surveying
Experience with boundary, topographic, existing conditions, and/or construction layout surveys
Familiarity with total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and electronic data collectors
Ability to read and interpret plans, maps, deeds, construction drawings, and engineering documents
Basic understanding of surveying principles, measurements, calculations, and field procedures
Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation
Ability to work both independently and as part of a survey/engineering team
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
Valid driver’s license
Preferred, but not required: AutoCAD Civil 3D, survey data processing, ALTA/NSPS surveys, boundary research, subdivision/land development surveying, and experience with robotic total stations.
