POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Monday - Friday.
On-site work environment.
Full Time, 40 hours per week.
First Shift, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
Location: Region 4 Office at DOT Headquarters in Newington, CT.
Applicants invited to interview will be required to supply a copy of their Driver’s License.
THE ROLE
The Qualified Craft Worker (Electrical) will be required to provide service for an agency operating with a 24/7/365 commitment to the transportation needs of the public. At times, you will be required to provide emergency response to address safety and operational needs.
This position provides a full range of electrical repair service including routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance in nature for multiple facilities as well as new electrical installation work as needed. Additionally, candidates must be able to operate a computer which includes Outlook for email and will be required to respond to a State-issued cell phone.
Responsibilities:
Install wiring, lighting systems, outlets, switches, and circuit breakers.
Install, maintain, and repair EV chargers.
Service and maintain generators (including large-capacity units).
Maintain and troubleshoot rooftop units (RTUs).
Service UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems.
Repair and replace lighting ballasts.
Maintain and install cubicle power systems.
Work with equipment from manufacturers/contractors such as Siemens, Trane, and Otis Elevator.
Maintain and repair illumination poles.
Install and service electrical panels and switchgear panels.
Maintaining & Installing Emergency Lighting & Exist Signage.
REQUIREMENTS
Possession of an Electrical Unlimited Journeyperson (E2) license is required.
You must live within 30 miles of the garage location listed.
A valid driver's license is required.
Ability to safely work at heights using lifts or bucket trucks.
Assist other skilled trades as required.
Travel and provide support to other regional locations as needed.
This position is categorized as Level 1 and the incumbents in this class will be required to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever their services are needed. This may include winter overtime assignments between November 1 and April 30. During various storm events, employees may be required to remain at work for the duration of the storm, which at times could extend for several days, including holidays and weekends.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience in tasks in the electrical trade.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been performing skilled electrical trades.
NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Skilled Maintainer or Transportation Maintainer 2.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in a maintenance trade area may be substituted for two (2) years of the General Experience.
At the University of Connecticut: Satisfactory performance and completion of the UConn Facilities Internship Training Program may be substituted for the General and Special Experience as determined by UConn Facilities Operations and Human Resources Management.
At other state agencies: Two (2) years of experience as a Qualified Craft Worker Trainee in a designated maintenance trade area may be substituted for the General and Special Experience.
Experience performing technical duties within the electrical trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier or large compound may be substituted for the General and Special Experience on a year for year basis.
