Description
The Division of Residential Construction and Fire Code Compliance is seeking someone with a background in fire code compliance/enforcement in existing buildings to join the FCC inspections team as a Permitting and Code Compliance Inspector III.
This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with adopted national Fire Codes and Standards, the Montgomery County Fire Code, and the Maryland State Fire Prevention Codes in existing buildings. This is accomplished through reviews and preventive inspection processes for businesses, schools, multi-family buildings, healthcare facilities, places of worship, and all other commercial buildings or occupancies.
- Perform and document complex fire code and compliance inspections.
- Investigate complaints related to violations of fire codes, ordinances, regulations, and guidelines.
- Provide written or oral feedback on findings.
- Educate and defend technical and procedural requirements.
- Issue orders, notices of violation, or citations for non-compliance.
- Provide periodic 24-hour on-call inspections and assistance.
- Enforce State and County codes and regulations relating to Fire Code Compliance.
- Work with property managers, business owners, design professionals, licensed contractors, and the public to ensure fire safety in the community.
- Other related duties.
This position requires the possession of a valid driver's license from the applicant's state of residence and the ability to drive a County vehicle to attend meetings, transport materials, or perform work at locations outside the office, including locations throughout Montgomery County MD.
Requirements
If filled at Permitting & Code Compliance Inspector III, Grade 23 -
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering, technical, or professional field and three (3) years of experience in a technical/professional field appropriate to fire code inspections and investigation, of which one (1) year must have been in a code compliance/enforcement capacity.
Or
Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland and seven (7) years of experience in fire code inspections and investigations, of which one (1) year must have been in a code compliance/enforcement capacity.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
The position may be underfilled as a Permitting and Code Compliance Inspector II or I.
