Under administrative supervision, this position serves as the Building Official for the County. Responsibilities include administering, enforcing, and interpreting building codes, licensing ordinances, and related regulations to ensure that all construction within the county is safe, compliant, and meets approved standards. The Building Official manages plan reviews, inspection activities, permitting procedures, and supervises building department staff. Additionally, the role oversees a comprehensive program for issuing, maintaining, and controlling licenses and permits according to relevant laws, ordinances, and regulations.
The position requires strong analytical skills and independent judgment. The employee is tasked with developing and implementing departmental policies and ensuring the efficient operation of all department functions and operations. This job involves extensive, varied, and critical contacts with other State, County and Municipal government agencies, legislative bodies, and the general public at all levels.
Requirements

Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the functions and activities of the Department of Inspections, Licenses, and Permits, including the function of plan review, permit processing, and code enforcement.
Develops policy to carry out departmental responsibilities relative to the County Construction codes, and other officially adopted laws and regulations.
Consults, negotiates and advises County officials and organizations on matters relating to existing or newly proposed regulations and building construction ordinances.
Develops and executes the departmental operating budget; authorizes the expenditures of funds.
Directs through subordinates the examination of plans for new and existing buildings and structures to ensure conformity with the building code, fire code and related ordinances; permit review and processing; and inspection and enforcement activities.
Represents the County in meetings with other governmental agencies and the public.
Review, assess and implement applicable state and federal regulations related to public safety construction codes.
Position is responsible periodic review and adoption of nationally developed construction codes in accordance with federal and state regulations.
