Description
Charles Abbott Associates, Inc. (CAA) is currently seeking an experienced Deputy Building Official or Building Official to support multiple municipal clients throughout the North Atlanta area.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced building department professional who is comfortable working across multiple jurisdictions and adapting to the individual needs, procedures, and priorities of each community. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and experienced professional who can provide technical expertise and operational support while working effectively alongside CAA's Building Officials, inspectors, permit staff, municipal staff, and other team members.

What You'll Do
Provide Building Official and/or Deputy Building Official support to multiple jurisdictions throughout the North Atlanta area, based on client and operational needs.
Plan, organize, perform, and assist with building department operations and activities, including building inspections, permit issuance, and plan review. Work collaboratively with Building Officials and municipal staff within each jurisdiction to support effective building department operations.
Provide interpretation and guidance regarding applicable building codes, rules, regulations, policies, and technical enforcement issues.
Coordinate with and support professional and technical staff as appropriate to the needs of each assigned jurisdiction.
Help ensure building codes are administered and enforced with consistency, equity, professionalism, and a strong focus on public safety.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with municipal clients, contractors, design professionals, staff, and the public.
Adapt to the policies, procedures, expectations, and organizational structure of each jurisdiction served.
Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and customer service to our clients and communities.
Ideal Candidates Will Have
Previous experience serving as a Deputy Building Official, Building Official, or in a comparable senior-level building department position.
The experience and flexibility to provide support to different municipal clients based on their individual needs.
The ability to transition comfortably between jurisdictions and work collaboratively with existing Building Officials, municipal staff, inspectors, permit staff, and other team members.
Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods used in building construction, including structural, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
Strong knowledge of plan review procedures, building inspections, permit issuance, and related recordkeeping.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations related to building construction and code enforcement.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on teamwork and customer service.
The ability to quickly become familiar with the procedures, expectations, and needs of each jurisdiction and provide support where needed.
A Bachelor's Degree in a related field and five (5) years of experience in a building department; or
Experience in the building construction industry, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity; or
An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
