- Chief Building Inspector
Description
The Chief Building Inspector provides the highest level of service to the engineering, architectural, construction community, and other citizens through the enforcement, interpretation, and application of building, zoning, and sign codes and other Town ordinances.
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Four (4) years of experience in building inspections.
Two (2) of experience with a municipality.
Must possess Plumbing Examiners Inspector License.
Must possess International Code Council Residential and Commercial Combination Inspector Certification, or obtain it within one (1) year of employment.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and post-offer physical exam.
Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
Must pass MVR check.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides excellent customer service; responds to and addresses homeowner and builder questions in
person, via phone, or via email.
Supervises and conducts training of building inspectors to ensure code compliance; oversees and
monitors the daily activities of the Building Inspection division.
Assigns and coordinates daily work and prioritizes tasks; verifies completion of assigned work and
evaluates compliance and notices of violations.
Cross-trains building inspectors to ensure continuity of service; answers and responds to questions on
both Town Policy and the application of building codes.
Performs on-site inspections to verify compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, zoning,
and sign code requirements; interprets and advises contractors on Town codes and answers technical
questions to codes
Proactively enforces Town codes, recommending corrections of violations during construction process.
Maintains inspection records including records of third-party testing and reports from engineers, energy
raters, and other professionals as required; issues letters, warnings, or citations to contractors and
property owners for non-compliance with Town Codes and Ordinances.
Shares responsibilities and works as a team with co-workers to complete daily scheduled tasks in a
timely manner.
Provides information on building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes to contractors, builders, and
the general public; reads and interprets building plans and stays abreast of current industry standards
and trends.
Assists Code Compliance Officer and related departments with complaints; ensures effective and
professional communication with supervisors and departments for continuity and integrity of services.
