- Building and Code Inspector II/III
Description
The City of Temple City is seeking a Building & Code Inspector II/III to perform technical inspection and code enforcement duties in support of the Community Development Department. This position ensures compliance with applicable building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, zoning, and municipal codes for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
Position Overview
The Building & Code Inspector conducts field inspections, monitors construction progress, and investigates complaints related to code compliance. The role works closely with property owners, contractors, businesses, and members of the public to provide guidance on City requirements and support voluntary compliance.
At the III level, the position performs more complex inspections, assists in coordinating inspection activities, and supports training and oversight within the Building Division.
This position may be filled at either the II or III level depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Building & Code Inspector II:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Three (3) years of experience in building construction, inspection, code enforcement, or a related field
College coursework in engineering, architecture, inspection technology, or a related field may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis
Building & Code Inspector III:
Associate’s degree or coursework in building inspection, engineering, architecture, or a related field is desirable
Three (3) years of building inspection experience with a public agency (or five years of experience in lieu of education)
Both Levels:
Valid California Class C driver’s license
International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Residential or Commercial Building Inspector (or equivalent) required
