Volusia County Schools
Company Overview
The Volusia County Schools (VCS) Building & Inspection Department serves as the Volusia County Schools’ Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and is responsible for the efficient and effective building code compliance review and inspection of all construction activities on Volusia County School District property. The purpose of a building code is to establish the minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare through structural strength, means of egress, facilities stability, sanitation, adequate light and ventilation, energy conservation, accessibility, safety of life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment, and to provide safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during emergency operations in all VCS facilities, whether permanent or temporary.
This is accomplished by pre-construction plan reviews, issuing building permits prior to starting any work, in-progress code compliance inspections of the work, final inspections, and occupancy approval prior to use or occupancy. All in compliance with the Florida Building Codes and Florida Statutes relating to public school construction.
Additionally, the VCS Building Department staff, as fellow employees of the Volusia County School District, will serve as a resource for other VCS staff to answer questions and to help solve non-compliant code conditions in the spirit of providing a safe built environment for staff, students, and the public users of VCS facilities.
