We are adding a Principal Electrical Engineer to our team!
This role will contribute to NFPA's Mission, Vision, and Strategic initiatives by ensuring high-quality execution of our standards development process, providing day-to-day project management, mentoring, and coaching of department staff; serving as a principal level standards development process technical expert internally and externally and delivering on the Association's most complex technical needs, as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Consistently demonstrate The NFPA Way by bringing Passion, being Bold, being Curious, getting Connected and Owning it. · Serve as principal electrical technical expert internally and externally · Manage the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) making process · Manage the responsibilities of the National Electrical Code Correlating Committee responsible for correlation of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, NFPA 73, NFPA 110, NFPA 111, NFPA 790, NFPA 791, and NFPA 79. · Manage other electrical standards through the standards development process, as assigned. · Represent NFPA and provide support to electrical trade associations, as assigned. · Represent NFPA on the UL Electrical Council. · Represent NFPA on the Canadian Electrical Code Part I committee.
- Work with internal staff to schedule and manage the activities of the Electrical Section annually.
- Provide electrical expertise to NFPA members through the technical question service.
- Serve as an electrical subject matter expert on handbook, training, certification and product development projects based on the needs of lines of business owners and Technical Services.
- Deliver technical content via instruction at revenue/nonrevenue instructor led training programs. field service, and outreach to stakeholders based on the needs of lines of business owners and Technical Services.
- Serve as an electrical expert on Fire Protection Research project panels for electrical research projects, when requested · Serve as an electrical expert in supporting the NFPA communications team. · Provide staff liaison support on other large standards development projects, when requested
- Lead areas of broad technical and strategic impact as needed.
- Lead multidisciplinary projects or initiatives as needed.
- Provide the required budgetary information for assigned projects.
- Guide participants in the NFPA codes and standards development process without bias.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering/technical discipline.
- Appropriate professional certification (ie: Professional Engineering License in electrical preferred, Mater Electrician, Certified Electrical Inspector).
- A minimum of 15 years of progressively increasing technical experience, project management, and
- content development in the electrical field.
- Principal Electrical technical/engineer knowledge to understand and address complex technical problems. (Expert electrical knowledge)
- Knowledge and understanding of the various member and stakeholder groups throughout the electrical industry.
- Strong understanding of NFPA codes and standards and the standards development process.
- Business knowledge to support association wide interaction and cross-functional team activities.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, and development skills directed for more junior staff.
- Proficiency in both written and verbal communication.
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Proficient at public speaking.
