Description
Position Title: Plant Instructor, Instrument and Electrical
Location: Adel, IA, United States
Description:
The plant instructor-instrument and electrical is responsible for developing and providing high quality training to support employees in acquiring the knowledge and skill required to safely and efficiently perform their job. Position also provides development and application of the tools necessary to deliver training programs, monitor training progress and evaluate trainees and programs, and coordinates outside customer related training programs. The plant instructor-instrument and electrical is required to travel extensively throughout the area to ensure the effective and timely delivery of quality training programs.
Responsibilities:
Develop, deliver, document and review apprenticeship, journeymen and other training materials using the Department of Labor systematic approach training model. Develop annual and just-in-time training schedules, and coordinate instruction provided by vendors on new, existing and modified equipment, products, tools, etc. (45%)
Conduct training of apprentices and journeymen at all supply sites. Extensive business travel is required to ensure the effective and timely delivery of quality training programs. Travel greater than 25% is possible. (25%)
Review job skills and evaluate employee performance. Work with work group leaders, the supply technical program advisor, and local apprenticeship and training committees to determine whether training can improve employee job performance and prevent work errors. Provide recommendations for step or phase progression. (10%)
Evaluate and modify training programs with input from employees, supervision, and apprenticeship and training committees, as required to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Perform periodic evaluations and reviews of training programs to ensure that curriculums are current and accurate. Develop, track and publish materials for training programs. (10%)
Work closely with the manager supply technical training, the supply technical program advisor/instructor and business unit managers to identify, develop and maintain training, progression, and certification programs for craft positions and other non-operations personnel. Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with business units being supported. (5%)
Maintain accurate training records, communicate schedules of training events and provide weekly progress reports. Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. (5%)
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in human performance management, engineering, business administration or related field, or completion of an instrumentation and electrical technical apprenticeship program, or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Four years experience in instrumentation and electrical maintenance required. Commercial power plant or large industrial facility experience is preferred.
Experience using the Department of Energy systematic approach to training model; including training analysis, program development and design, implementation and presentation skills, and evaluation and measurement is desired. This may consist of time spent as subject matter expert (SME) trainer and/or on-the job training.
Experience with OSHA and EPA compliance is desired.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Ability to design applicable training programs utilizing the Systematic Approach to Training model.
Effective oral and written communications skills, including presentation skills, to transmit information accurately and effectively.
Demonstrated experience and proficiency with computer programs (MS Office, etc.).
Specialized knowledge of operation and maintenance at an electric generating station.
