Description
Summary Objective:
The purpose of this position is to supervise and train building inspectors and conduct plan reviews and building inspections. May be called upon to stand in for building official in times of their absence.
This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
Plans, assigns and participates in conducting daily building inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, local codes, laws and regulations.
Review and approve building plans for construction within the City to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, ordinances, laws and regulations.
Confers with and advises contractors, owners, architects, engineers and the general public regarding interpretation and application of building codes and other applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations.
Provides on-the-job training for building inspectors in the office and in the field.
Investigates unlicensed and unpermitted building construction.
Performs related work as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
Ten years of construction or building inspections or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
