DEPARTMENT: BUILDING DEPARTMENT
SUPERVISED BY: BUILDING OFFICIAL
FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process and maintain permits, applications for building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing
Schedule all general, rough and final inspections and process all related paperwork
Data entry of all permits and inspections
Schedule all inspections for rental properties, sale of properties and commercial properties
Set schedule and route for all inspectors
Issue certificate of occupancy after inspections are completed
Register all contracts
Prepare and process invoices and submit to accounts payable for the building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing inspector’s compensation
Prepare and process monthly revenue reports
Send warning and failure to comply letters for certificate of occupancy
Send letters for failure of final inspections and certificate of occupancy process or failure to pull required permits
Prepare real estate summary reports to assist ordinance officer for certificate of occupancy citations to be issued
General typing, filing, answering phone
Assist customers at the building department counter
Process business license requests from the Clerk’s Office
Compile, process and maintain all dangerous building information and the Dangerous Building
Process all demolition applications
Arrange with DTE Energy all demolition shut offs
Compile and process workflow of all rental properties
Provide courts with information necessary
Process and vendor invoices
Process department requisition requests
Process all bonds and associated refunds
Process and maintain all plan reviews and site plans
Process and maintain monthly required reports to the State of Michigan
Check all permits and plan reviews for zoning compliance
Process and maintain online applications for permits and inspections
Process building department mail
Requirements
EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma
