Description
The City of Carlsbad is accepting applications for the position of
Electrical Inspector. Under general supervision, issues electrical
permits, performs electrical inspections and other related duties.
Inspect buildings during construction to ensure compliance with the
electrical codes and other applicable requirements and approved
plans and specifications in coordination with the code enforcement
effort of the department and the State of New Mexico Construction
Industries Division.
Assist and advise the general public in matters relating to
electrical code requirements. Process electrical permit
applications. Review plans for electrical code compliance.
Investigate complaints and make inspections of existing buildings
to determine if hazardous or illegal conditions exist relating to
electrical systems and their use.
Prepare written reports, issue notices to correct code violations,
issue "stop work" notices, and testify in court regarding
violations. Maintain records of building plans, permits and
violations.
Perform various office and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of municipal and state electrical codes and ordinances.
Proficient knowledge of the electrical code and legal application
thereof.
Ability to read and objectively interpret electrical code
requirements in a knowledgeable manner, along with other laws
pertaining to the regulation of buildings, and to tactfully and
effectively communicate, orally or in writing, with the general
public while maintaining effective relationships.
Ability to independently recognize, evaluate and properly resolve
unique problems or situations requiring the exercise of good
judgment. Ability to read and interpret construction plans and
specifications. Ability to maintain records and prepare written
reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with contractors, other staff and City officials, and the public.
Ability to understand and interpret complex regulations,
guidelines, and procedures.
Requirements
Qualifications: Any combination of training and experience that
would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is
qualifying.
High school diploma or GED and a minimum of three (3) years of
journeyman level electrical experience. Must possess an electrical
inspector certificate from the State of New Mexico Construction
Industries Division.
Must have an excellent work history to include dependability and
stability. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's
license. Proficient in reading, writing and speaking English
In addition to an excellent benefit package, starting base salary
is $92,934. Additional pay increase available for applicants with
advanced educational degrees and/or state inspector certifications
in mechanical, electrical or plumbing.
