Employment Status: Full-time, "Non-Exempt", Temporary position in the Facilities Department.**Note: This is a full-time, temporary position that has the possibility of converting to a full-time, permanent position.**Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; with the possibility of an alternate 4/10 work schedule from June 23 - September 1.Deadline: The deadline to apply for this position is June 29, 2017 by 5:30 p.m. Overview:The Facilities Management Department is a unit within the Administration and Finance division and is responsible for the management and development of facilities on campus. The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic works within the Building and Mechanical Services shop which is responsible for providing quality maintenance and minor repair and renovation services. Under direction of the Building and Mechanical Services Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic works independently as a skilled generalist and performs at a journey level in one trade with strong skills in other trades to perform a variety of skilled preventive and general maintenance, repair, construction and renovation work on facilities and systems, to support a clean, safe and attractive learning environment. This position also performs scheduled preventive maintenance on installed equipment.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Knowledge of: Methods, materials, equipment and tools in related trade areas pertaining to facilities, systems, construction and renovationComputerized maintenance and building automation systemsApplicable building and safety codes and regulations related to facilities, systems, and renovations English grammar, spelling and punctuation and the ability to read, write and perform arithmetic functions at a level appropriate to the position. Ability to: Use considerable judgment and discretion in performing duties Read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawing, and specifications; make rough sketches; estimate cost, time and materials of maintenance, repair and renovation work Analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations Read and write at a level appropriate to the positionEffectively and accurately maintain records, retrieve data, and prepare standard reports using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems Interact and communicate in an effective and dependable manner, as well as establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with clientele such as students, staff, faculty and co-workers. EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:Four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade OR any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program. Existing CSUSB employees will receive preference. Duties may involve the use of a state vehicle which requires possession of a valid California driver's license and the successful completion of the campus Defensive Driving examination.Physical Requirements:Must be able to lift, lower, push, and pull loads ranging in weight from 5-60 lbs.; must be able to carry loads ranging from 20-50 lbs. for distances up to 20 feet; must be capable of kneeling, reaching overhead, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, twisting, stooping, and bending; depending upon the project, employee may spend 20-50% of day sitting, 20-50% of day standing, 20-50% of day walking.
