The School of Law (Boalt Hall) facility includes two buildings: the Boalt Hall complex (including the original 1951 building, the 1968 eastern addition (including Simon Hall), the 1996 addition (North Addition), and the 2011 addition (South Addition)) and 2240 Piedmont Avenue.
Event Set-Up Support -
Set up tables, chairs, white board, banners and podium for conferences. The set up includes registration, dining and cocktail setups. Breakdown setups when conference is finished. Meet weekly with Director of Operations to go over the week’s events. Requests received via web-based ticketing system, Footprints. Follow up with event organizers if no set up ticket has been submitted.
General Building Maintenance -
Monitor the Building Services Footprints ticketing system. Respond to request via Footprints. Direct requests to appropriate Law School staff in accordance with written protocols. For emergency situations (floods, other hazardous situations), contact Campus Facilities Services.
Complete in house requests include: moving furniture, hanging pictures and other minor office repairs, delivery large bins for recycling, and removing large items for excess & salvage.
Check classrooms weekly during academic terms for cleanliness, condition of chairs and white boards. Check patios and clean debris as needed. Walk around the outside of the building twice a week checking for broken locks on doors, street people or damage to building. Check the fire alarm panel outside the Goldberg Room if it starts beeping. Call Campus Facilities Services and alert Director of Operations if there is a “trouble” reading on panel. Check stairwell doors to make sure they are unlocked. Check restrooms for signs of transients homesteading. Use master key to open doors for occupant who is locked out.
Order supplies: cleaner, gloves, carpentry equipment, drills, etc. Keep shelves in a neat and orderly condition. Make emergency supplies readily available, i.e. bucket, mop, caution sign and emergency cart. Report inappropriate room temperatures to Building Projects Manager. Move all obstacles out of hallways that include, but not limited to, chairs, boxes, furniture, etc.
Respond to work requests in these areas as received via the web-based ticketing system, Footprints. Duties performed as requested (via e-mail/Footprints, phone, or in person under the direction of the Building Services Manager, who reviews work on a periodic basis. Responsibilities are of an ongoing nature and incumbent is expected to perform these tasks and determine appropriate actions with limited supervision.
Work Lead for Student Assistants -
Act as work lead for team of student assistants. In consultation with Director of Operations, assign event set up and breakdown jobs. Follow up to ensure that the work is completed satisfactorily. Other work assignments can include: replacing batteries in Trilogy locks, picking up over-sized recycling from offices, and fulfilling requests for recycling bins. Consult with Director of Operations about other tasks that can be assigned to work study students.Knowledge/Skills: •Ability to safely push a hand truck or lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs. and safely climb ladders up to 10 ft. •Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to complete simple written reports. •Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. •Demonstrated organizational skills to perform a broad range of assignments with thoroughness and attentiveness while meeting competing deadlines. •Ability to work with frequent interruptions, to take initiative and to follow through on assignments. •Ability to anticipate and recognize problems and recommend solutions. •Ability to respond to emergencies calmly and with effective remedies. •Interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to interact effectively with coworkers, supervisors, staff, faculty and students as well as campus personnel and outside vendors. •Good attendance record and punctuality. •Ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion. •Ability to use email and Internet.
Education/Training: •High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
