Under the supervision of the Theater Production Manager, the Scenic Carpenter is responsible for the construction, implementation, loading-in, maintenance, and striking of the scenic design for all Main Stage and Barn theatrical productions. The incumbent works closely with the Scenic Designer during all phases of the theatre build, technical, and strike. The Scenic Carpenter helps interpret the scenic design under the guidance of the Theater Production Manager including materials selection, acquisition and build scheduling. The incumbent also assists in the supervision of all student construction crews. The Scenic Carpenter must be well versed in all types of carpentry tools including basic hand tools as well as power and stationary tools.
1.Prior work experience and/or training demonstrating proficiency in Scenic Carpentry.
2.High school or trade school diploma, or equivalent. Additional general education in theatrical carpentry preferred.
3.Demonstrated ability to perform job related mathematical computations, understand scenic plans/specifications, and complete assignments.
4.Ability to satisfactorily communicate (read, write, speak and understand) in English.
5.Sufficient physical fitness and health to perform potentially strenuous manual labor including, but not limited to, heavy lifting, handling and moving of required materials, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, and walking.
6.Must be available to work non-standard hours as necessary including evenings and weekends to accommodate construction schedules.
7.Valid driver's license and accessibility to transportation preferred for off-campus trips to vendors as necessary.
8.Employment is conditional upon the satisfactory result of a post-offer of employment medical/vision/hearing examination and drug test administered by a university selected licensed medical practitioner indicating fitness and health to perform the job.
9.Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
