Architecture Engineering & Construction is seeking a high energy and experienced, team-oriented individual to join Construction Services as a Senior Supervisor. This supervisor’s primary responsibility will be planning, scheduling and overseeing construction and renovation projects.
Planning, organizing, scheduling and the supervision of construction and renovation projects in laboratory, animal room, classroom, office, hospital, health care and research facilities
Supervise projects involving the application of Carpentry, Painting, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Fire Alarm, Fire Suppression, Masonry, Plaster and other Skilled Trades
Estimate job requirements including Trade(s), quantity of time, equipment and supplies required
Meet with customers to create scope of work that meets user requirements and budget
Manage the work of specialty contractors hired to support construction projects
Review daily time records, approve daily time records and correct errors
Procure material for renovation projects and oversee staging both on-site and off-site
Management duties include managing trades workers; planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency, helping resolve problems, handling their complaints and grievances.
Lead efforts to continuously improve services provided by all areas
Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to subordinate group
Review jobs, prints, and specifications
Conduct feasibility reviews
Assign and manage work requests and projects
Provide project budget
Resolve customer complaints
High School degree
5 years of experience in construction
Proficiency in managing spreadsheets, writing reports and communicating effectively through email
Experience and ability to directly supervise skilled trade workers
Ability to produce construction schedules in Microsoft Project or SmartSheets.
Strong written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to provide professional customer service
Commercial construction estimating experience
Ability to provide professional customer service
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work, to meet multiple deadlines and to work under pressure, and to make and keep commitments
Ability to work accurately, as a member of a team, to maintain organized records (printed and electronic), and to relate to individuals from diverse ethnic, cultura, and economic backgrounds
Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
Knowledge and experience with CMMS software, financial accounting software, Microsoft Office products (or equivalent), Google products, BOX, Smart Phone technology, tablet technology and computers
Experience in managing laboratory construction and renovation projects, classroom renovation projects, and hospital/health care construction and renovation projects
Commercial/institutional construction estimating experience
Experience with compliance of Interim Life Safety measures
University of Michigan knowledge: procurement system and processes, culture, buildings, campus geography, region geography and people
Training and experience with continuous improvement processes and tools
Proactive problem solver; identify and solve issues before they become problems
Ability to provide process-oriented work order management; organize, prioritize, contingency planning, multi-task planning
