Job Responsibilities:This Maintenance Carpenter position works primarily on flooring projects.
• Installation and repair of all types of carpet.• Installation and repair of ceramic, porcelain and quarry tile.• Install and repair vinyl tile, rubber tile and sheet goods, including flash coving and weldable sheet goods.• Install vinyl base, rubber base and wood base.• Perform repairs to football field turf.• Inventorying of materials.• Perform general carpentry work (both rough and finish) involved in construction of wooden building frames, steel studs, sheetrock, and related accessories.• Performs waterproofing, caulking and puttying.• Inspects and makes necessary repairs to doors, windows, floors, ceilings, and stairs.• Install and repair toilet stalls and bathroom accessories.• Installs shower pan liners and mud setting beds.• Perform preventative maintenance as directed.• Ability to read and follow blue prints, specifications and written orders.• Must have basic computer skills.• Ability to independently inspect, recognize and repair identified problems.• Complete work in a timely fashion, keeping supervisor informed of progress or delays.• Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior to all customers, co-workers and other members of the campus community.• Represent Facilities Management and the University in a positive way by maintaining a professional and neat appearance.• Know and follow safety procedures and policies in everyday work and use protective equipment as required.• Participate in team meetings and decisions within the work unit.• Attend required training sessions.• Ability to keep motivated and work independently throughout campus.• Serve as a liaison between separate department locations.• Exhibits strong communication skills, to assure clear, consistent communication with co-workers, customers, and other members of the campus community.• Other work-related duties as assigned.
This Maintenance Carpenter (Flooring) position works Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Maintenance Carpenters start at $21.05 per hour.
Required/Essential Qualifications:Completion of vocational school in carpentry and 3 years of journeyman carpentry experience. Journey level work experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
